Favela Films was partner in making a documentary Balika in cooperation with the MV Foundation and Unicef India. Balika is 8′ minute documentary set in India, Andra Pradesh. The film is directed and filmed by Elise Roodenburg & Harish Singh and produced by Florine Bos and Naga Trinadh.

Balika (which means ‘girl’) sketches an image of what it is like to be a girl or young women in contemporary poor rural south India. This documentary is about the Balika Sanghas: groups of adolescent girls in small villages of south India who come together once every fortnight to discuss issues related to their education and development, as the rights of these girls are often subordinated to those of boys.
