I’m Elise Roodenburg, a documentary director and journalist with a passion for human interest stories and subcultures.

I hold a bachelor in Anthropology, a masters in International Development and I’ve finished a study in documentary making. I’d describe myself  as a creative story teller with a strong visual focus. At my best when I’m traveling the world,  meanwhile my home is in both Amsterdam and Rio de Janeiro, where I live in a favela.

I complete my work as a videographer, editor and a content maker for the NGO Estrela da Favela in Rio de Janeiro. Among my  other clients are VPRO, Netflix, Videoland, BNNVARA, NOS Sport, de Volkskrant, de Groene Amsterdammer, VICE and Unicef India.

I directed, produced and edited a feature length documentary Inside the Mind of Favela Funk which premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2016. Also I directed the short documentary Mocromode for the VPRO which was shown at the Nederlands Film Festival 2018.
